Here’s little tip about qualify

Almost all online English teaching companies require prior experience. Honestly, whether you realize it or not, you have teaching experience. Think of a job or student organization or activity where you had to teach a skill.

Let me give you example:

Back when I was in college I was an assistant for the lab and I’m mentor a freshman in student organization.

Write it down! That’s your experience! Make sure those things add up to a year. Do not put “no experience” on your application, you will get denied.

What is the hiring process?

Here’s quick summary the hiring process look like.

#1 Sign up and send demo video

The application process is pretty standard among English teaching companies. To get started, simply visit the QKids website and click “Apply.”

After this, you have to send them your resume and make 1-2 minutes introduction video: Introduce yourself, where you live, your educational background, and any experience teaching or working with kids. Then read a children’s story. You can send them the URL of your video or send it as an attachment.

Here’s small tips for the introduction video

Write an outline of everything you are going to say or script it out and practice it a few times before you shoot the video. When you ready you can record it on your phone or computer and upload on youtube or vimeo.

You don’t need to buy any new book, you can find short story online, print it out and read few pages.

Keep in mind, they want you to work well with children. Use your hands and be animated with your movements. If you feel silly, you are doing it right.

#2 Demo Interviews

You will then be invited for two demo interviews. In the first interview, you have to demonstrate your knowledge of the teaching platform (how the buttons work, how to improve audio and video quality, more.).

The second demo is a 25-minute Q&A interview with the recruiter. After this, you will be asked to demonstrate your teaching style and personality.

Remember this tip to give diamonds and praise “the student!”. The student is the interviewer pretending to be 5 years old.

If the student messes up, say “nice try” or “so close”. Avoid saying negative feedback like “you are wrong” or “no that’s not correct.”

#3 Trial Classes

You will teach 2-5 trial classes. These classes are paid and is $8 per lesson. You will also receive feedback on how to improve your teaching style so that it’s more fun and engaging for the students.

All materials will be given to you beforehand. You can go into the classroom and practice the lesson by yourself before the lesson. You have 24 hours or more before the lesson to practice the games and prepare for the trial classes.

Here’s little tips for the trail class

Go into the classroom 5 – 10 minutes before the lesson. Some kids will be there waiting for you. Start interacting with them immediately, ask them questions or sing a song together.

Make sure to not go over time. If you are late for your next class, the class is automatically given to another teacher. Again, You must arrive at the classroom two or five minutes before the scheduled time.

During your class, constantly be checking the clock to make sure you are on track!

#4 Background Check

QKids will run a background check to make sure that all the information and paperwork you’ve submitted checks out.

#5 Contract Signing

Finally, if you reach this far congratulation you are hire. You can now start teaching at QKids. The contract is good for 6 months.

Qkids classes are 30 minutes long and teachers are expected to arrive 5 minutes early to ensure everything is functioning correctly.

You will work with 1-4 students in each class. You need to work at 6-19 hours each week to keep your teaching post.

What are the class schedule and time slots?

You can set your class schedule a week ahead.

Since you will be following Beijing time, you will be teaching classes early in the morning or during the evenings. For instance, if you live in EST regions, classes typically fall at 6-9 AM every day, plus weekday schedules of 8 PM to 12 Midnight.

They will pay you through bank transfer and they will take care of all the transfer fees. The payments are processed once a month the 12th or no later than the 15th.

How long does it take to get hired?

Qkids is pretty fast to get back to your application within one or two days. The interview going take 2 weeks since it’s 2 demo interviews. The trail class will schedule following week after your second demo interviews.

I’d say it took a little over a month from when you initially applied to teaching your first class. You’re process can go faster. I’d say 2 weeks to a month to get hired.

Now let’s talking about pros and cons

Pros

  • Flexible schedule – you can pick your own schedules per week.
  • No need to find students – QKids does the recruitment for you
  • Lessons are already provided – all you have to do is familiarize yourself with the learning materials before you show up in class.

Cons

  • Work in China time – classes follow the typical schedule in China, which usually fall early mornings and late nights in North America.
  • Work up to 19 hours/ week – You can only work a maximum of 19 hours per week. Is it like a side hustle or part-time jobs.
  • No class during vacations – students typically take month-long vacations during the Chinese New Year, which means you won’t have work during this time.

Now you might be wonder is this company legit or totally a scam? I did a little research for you let see what they said.
