Home call center jobs can be done around the world, though many companies will hire employees who live in specific locations or countries.

Home call center agents must meet a variety of qualifications, such as being fluent in the language of the company’s customers and having access to a phone line and internet connection.

These jobs can be full- or part-time. Depending on your time zone, you may be able to find work during days, nights, and weekends.

Number 2 Online Chat Agent

Chat agent jobs are good for those that want to work at home but prefer a job that doesn’t require time on the phone.

These customer service professionals may do tech support, answer billing questions, the process returns, or sell products via email, text, and chat.

Chat jobs can be full-time or part-time, and many companies offer flexible scheduling, including days, nights, and weekends.

Number 3 Virtual Assistant

A virtual assistant works remotely to assist with a variety of tasks, including research, scheduling, email management, booking travel, and more. 

VAs who work for a large company may be paired with multiple clients or a single, dedicated client. Some are freelancers who run their own businesses.

If you run your own virtual assistant business, you can set your own hours; if you work for a company, you may be required to be available at set times including days, nights, and weekends.

  • High-speed internet connection connected to an ethernet cable (not wireless)
  • Landline phone
  • The up-to-date operating system on your computer
  • Ability to download and use specified software
  • Basic computer skills

How flexible are the hours for customer service work?

Generally speaking, the hours may not be very “flexible” from day today. Some companies have a designated schedule that you will need to work. Those companies usually tell you that in the job description.

With some companies, you will need to bid on your shifts for the week in advance. You will then be committed to working the hours for which you bid until the next shift bid happens.

Sometimes there will be a standard of 9-to-5 operation, but more often a company that’s hiring a lot of remote customer service reps is going to have a customer service window that’s open 18-24 hours every day.

This makes it a great opportunity for those looking for late-night or weekend hours because of a day job or family obligations. If you don’t have much for availability or flexibility, however, this can be a tough gig.

There are quite a few companies known for hiring at-home customer service reps, especially during the busy season. Not all companies may be hiring at this time, but if you want to find a work-from-home job doing customer services, these are all great places to start looking.

Amazon – location-specific and usually paying around $10 per hour, Amazon’s busiest season is right around Christmas. This position may last up to six months and includes an employee discount.

SYKES – a worldwide company offering customer service solutions to Fortune 1000 clients in healthcare, transportation, leisure, technology, communications, and financial services industries.

Teleflora – Mother’s Day is their busiest time of year, location-specific, full- and part-time positions available

PNC Bank – frequently has remote customer service positions available. Often limited to specific time zones

ACTIVE Network – has some really interesting customer service positions like camping reservations and hunting/fishing licenses.
